Gothic picture frames
Did you know it was a popular custom to tell ghost stories at Christmas? Historians claim this could go back to Pegan times and their gatherings of the winter solstice. More recently it was quite popular during the Victorian era. Queen Victoria loved a good ghost story and so it was quite the thing in all of 1800's England. This tradition didn't quite make it to the U.S., but instead ghost stories somehow transitioned to Halloween, which all began with the Druids. Anyway, in that vein, I made these dark Christmas pictures and frames. There are many vintage photos online with this theme. I am adding the tree I already posted and have decorated my booth at Country Creek Treasures in this theme.

Buckeye wreath
Remember those buckeyes from our yard that we picked up a while back? They finally dried out, so I made this small wreath. I ran out of buckeyes so I used acorns, then I ran out of acorns, so I used cinnamon sticks. Then I ran out of cinnamon sticks........FYI..buckeyes do not like to stick to much of anything, but I managed and here's the finished product. The back story is that Bill was telling me about his grandpa Halterman planting the buckeye tree in our yard when Bill was a kid. We have ignored it every year, even though it kept making buckeyes. That same day we picked some up and so this is a little remembrance of times gone by and people that are no longer with us.

A visit with Liz
Lisa Erlinger and I went to visit our friend, (and my sister-in-law for many years) Liz Phillips, this afternoon at Doctor's Nursing Home. We had such a good time. We went to Arby's and got food for all of us and had a picnic in her room. We laughed a lot and Liz said we made her whole week. She would love some company, she is in room 203. She has had a hard way to go health-wise lately, but she is doing much better now. I hope you all have had a great Saturday!

Gothic Christmas Tree
I made this gothic Christmas tree today. I bought a green tree at a resale shop and spray painted it flat black. It was a fun way to spend the day and I have something interesting to decorate my craft booth for the holidays.

Had lunch with these Red Hat sisters yesterday! It was a small group and we learned more about turkeys than we ever needed to know.. It was a good time as always! Everyone was about out the door and I took this quick photo, so I am not in it....

Buckeyes
We were sitting by the fire today and Bill was telling me about his grandpa Halterman planting the buckeye tree in our yard when he was a kid. The poor tree has been largely ignored for decades, so we picked them up from the yard and brought them in. Mother nature just keeps doing her thing, making things grow year after year. Don't know what I 'm going to do with them, but they sure look pretty in this old tarnished tray.
