Earthquake cupcakes

Good afternoon friends. It's been a cold and dreary day today. The trees are full of ice crystals and it's only getting colder. I made a half gallon of yogurt today and it turned out great. Also made Earthquake cupcakes. They are very ugly, but extremely delicious, there is coconut, pecans on the bottom and the frosting is in the middle...yum. Thanks to Janet Hanks for making me hungry when she posted a photo of her cake the other day. I took half of them to the guys at one of the gas stations downtown. Bill and I had one with some coffee, ah retirement is good! I hope you are all enjoying your day.

Had a really great day today. Ate a tasty lunch at Java Joe's: 3 cheese sandwich with cucumber dressing, cucumbers, lettuce, onion on thick wheat berry bread, pickle, chips and black currant iced tea. Then surprised my brother, Milo and sis in law, Barb with a visit. Had some dark chocolate brownies with cream cheese frosting and coffee. Had such a fun time. Mom bought me this coffee mug with a chicken on it, I love it. Thanks mom! I hope you all enjoyed your day.

Ate at Ponderosa in Vandalia with MIL, FIL and Bill. Drove through town and looked at all of the victorian houses, the old Capital building, where Abe Lincoln served as a state representative. Stopped by the new Amish Grocery store in St. Peter, bought a few items i.e. SunButter (sunflower butter), honey, wheat germ, oranges and bacon and cheddar cheese. Saw hundreds of snow geese, and Canadian geese in the winter corn fields, just beautiful! It was a great day, now home in the warm house waiting for the sleet, ice or whatever is coming our way. Hope you all are enjoying your day.

It was exceptionally warm for a January day. Bill built a fire in the fire pit so the boys could cook their own hotdogs. We all went outside for a while and sat by the fire. It was more like a spring day. Garret and Lucas helped grandpa Bill pick up sticks and then he let them saw them into pieces and put them in the fire. Mom, Shelley and I sat in the house and had a nice visit when we weren't outside. It was a great day and the boys had lots of fun running and playing in the mud holes outside. As they drove away to go back home, the sky was full of geese, so beautiful. I love my family so much.

Midnight in Paris, frostys and christmas cupcakes

First of all, I wanted to post my Christmas cupcakes, mostly so I would remember them for next year, they were all red velvet and I used up a lot of decorating things I had around the house. Should have posted them at Christmas..

Yesterday was our weekly movieday at mom's. We watched "Midnight in Paris" written and directed by Woody Allen. It was VERY, VERY good, a different twist on life, as we always expect from him. It was interesting that the costumes were all drab colors, even the rooms were always tan and gray, only one scene had reds and golds. It made the story the main object in view and not the fancy costumes, of which there were very few. We enjoyed it lots! First we had a chocolate frosty and had a nice visit. Always a great time with mom. Hope her sciatica gets better soon, so she can get back to normal. Other than that she is doing fine. Came home and made dill poached salmon for supper, with some steamed carrots, but I blew it all by having strawberry shortcake for dessert, but, oh well, you only live once!

mom and I had a great time at Shelley Yandell's today. Those grand boys are just awesome and SO funny. I love them so much. Cary Yandell made his special mac/cheese and ham casserole for lunch. Then I took Shelley to get some feathers in her hair, we got some Greek food (just some small samples for tasting). It was really good, then we watched the movie THOR, and had oreo chocolate cake and coffee...so good to see them all. I hope your Monday was fantastic too!

Mom and I went to Shelley's yesterday. I wore a cord necklace with this little tiny mushroom in a glass bead. It is barely an inch long. Garret, age 5, was sitting on my lap and was looking at the necklace. He said "There's a little mushroom in there." I said "Yes, there is, a very tiny one. "
He said: "It looks sad.", I said "Why do you think the mushroom is sad?" He said "Because it's not in the forest." I said. "It's not a real mushroom.", He said "It looks like it's crying." Well, you can see that the air bubbles in the glass looks like tears. I said, "he's not crying, thats just air bubbles." So he jumped down and played for a while and several hours went by. He got back on my lap, looked at the necklace bead again and smiled and said "Maybe he's crying tears of joy."It was like he was thinking about it for a while...it's amazing what goes through the mind of a child, what a beautiful thing.

Mona McGuire Decker, she was visiting her brother in Salem and we decided to get together for that homemade blackberry pie, I promised her way last winter. We watched some really good movies too: Burlesque, with Cher and Christina Aguilara, and The King's Speech with Geoffrey Rush and Colin Firth, as King George V, no wonder it won best motion picture, best male actor and many other academy awards, I highly recommend it...

We just got back from the Salem Aquatic ctr. ...it was 100 degrees today, heat index 115...yikes. There is a 15 minute break in the afternoon when all of the kids have to get out, but the oldies can swim. It was awesome! Bill and I swam the length of the pool several times and just enjoyed not having a kid jump on our head...seriously, that happened to me 3 times! I hope you all stayed cool today...

We just took the dog for a walk in the rain, but it was just starting so was very enjoyable. I told Bill that this is the kind of day I wish we had a porch, where we could sit in our rocking chairs with our coffee and listen to the rain. Had a busy day today, Went to Salem, delivered gourd birdhouses, delivered blackberry jam, delivered eggs and mushrooms to mom, went to Walmart, had a tooth filled (not a Walmart). Came home, planted potatoes blueberry bush, and 40 strawberry plants. Transplanted broccoli and cabbage plants. cooked mushrooms on the fire pit..!!! Took a bath and can hardly keep my eyes open..and I'm supposed to be retired.....

Planted some hazelnut trees today. Took a walk, visited with our cousin, Tom and put my gourds in the greenhouse to finish drying. I made one lonely birdhouse from a small gourd. A woodpecker is making a nesting hole in one of our trees, we have been watching him today. Bill went to an auction with his mom, so I am relaxing and have a book to finish...I hope you are all having a great day!

Hello, my friends, first of all I appreciate so much the huge outpouring of love for my mom in your many comments and emails. It means so much. So the report is that there were still some unusual cells in her kidney which the doctor removed and sent to the lab for analysis.
He is supposed to call her soon with the results, but as of right now he is not removing her kidney and want to wait for 3 months to see her again and discuss thins at that time. So, for right now, things are good and she is home resting w...ith no internet..!! She is having a repair lady come in the next few days and I found my ethernet cord, so she at least can maybe use her laptop when I get it to her.

Please keep my mom in your prayers tomorrow, my facebook friends. She is having some exploratory surgery and the doctor will decide whether to remove her kidney or not. Please pray that there are no tumors and that he decides not to remove her kidney. We would all appreciate it so much. We will be going to Barnes Hospital early in the morning...so will be heading to bed soon. Thanks so much, my friends.

We spent the day at Mattoon at an antique auction, it was a long day, but very interesting and profitable for us. We took a table of antiques there earlier in the week. Sadly, one of our sweet Red Hat ladies has passed away, Ruth Silvey. She was 93 years old, but you would never have know it, she was always so funny, I can't tell you how many times she made me laugh out loud. She collected hats and had lots of them. Took mom for a medical test today, then she treated me to lunch at Applebees...a belated birthday dinner for me. Then my mother in law brought me over some beautiful flowers and some Jelly Belly's also a belated birthday gift...it was a great day. I finally made those oatmeal, raisin, pecan cookies. Bill took some to the gas station to share. I went back to the German bakery today and bought some table salt that is made from the Himalayan salt mines. It has 84 different minerals in it and is much better for you than table salt. So will be interesting to try it. That's all I got friends. Here's the cookies, take one and pass them along... :-)

We took Sally for her walk, and stopped at Troy's gas station, where we sat and visited with some guys we know who were in there loafing. So, Bill says I am now officially a gas station loafer. Wow, more snow today, as of now there is 7 inches, I think it's over. I took a walk while it was really coming down, just beautiful! I always want to open my mouth and let the flakes fall in my mouth, do we ever get to old to enjoy that?? lol

It's another dreary day here in Illinois, expecting more snow. I haven' t had much ambition of late. Need to get my butt in gear and do something worthwhile. I think I have a touch of what Bill had too. Could really use a walk on the beach in the sunshine and breathing some salty air....hey, I can dream can't I?

Annual birthday dinner

Went out to eat last night with mom, Bill, mother-in-law, Aunt Nancy and the husbands. We 3 Halterman ladies all have our birthdays in the same week, so we always go out each year. Went to Ryans at Mt. Vernon, and had a great meal and got "Happy Birthday" sung to us, it was a nice evening.

Bill got me this beautiful Salt lamp for my birthday, it has a soft orange/amber glow that is very relaxing, AND it's supposed to ionize the air in the room...either way, I love it! Thanks Bill, love you.

Supper's in the oven, chicken rice casserole, mashed sweet potatoes, green salad. Went walking in the snow this morning before the wind kicked up and spent some time on the internet....where has the day gone??? There was a beautiful red sunset glowing in the snow clouds.

Coconut shrimp, wild rice, salad and buttered potatoes for lunch today, took a walk while the sun was still shining, watching "Knowing" right now...it's a great movie, I have seen it many times, but Showtime is open, so why not??? Hope everyone is having a great day....

Was just watching PBS, where they were visiting the Shetland Islands, this is a most famous bus stop right there in Unst. It it so famous, it has it's own website, check out the "themes" as they decorate for all seasons...it's really cool.

Ah, my husband is so sick with the flu...I feel so sorry for him. He has the cold virus, fever, body ache, cough, congestion type, tho. So at least he's not running to the bathroom every 5 minutes..oh, and he's getting where he can barely talk.. :-(

It's a beautiful, sunny 40 degree day, so I took a walk with my ipod in my ears, singing along, cause no one is ever home during the day. I'm lost in "I Got a Feelin", and just as I'm shouting " Mozel tov", I see movement beside a house, and there's a lady sweeping....lol....I bet she wondered what an Irish girl was doing yelling mozel tov...I just waved...too late for anything else.. :-)

Bill and I took the moms to see the new TRUE GRIT movie last night, awesome! Went for a bite to eat and then home. It was SO cold...brrrr...had a great time though.
