Pears galore

 I have been making pear sauce everyday for over a week. Bill's brother gave us a huge box of Keifer pears from their pear tree. They are known to be very hard, even when ripe and yes, they are, hard as a brick! They make great sauce though, no sugar needed, as they are very sweet, I only used cinnamon. Also, it's been so hot, didn't want to heat the house up, so just put them in the crockpot on low for 6 hours, cooled and into the freezer. That is why it took me so long, one batch a day.I think we are set for fresh tasting fruit until next summer. A shout out to the inventors of food processors, crockpots and immersion blenders! I couldn't have done it without you! (Well, I could have, but I am too lazy for that!

 

Throw Back Thursday

 It's Throw Back Thursday...my mom was such a good sport. I always helped her find a costume for our Red Hat Halloween party and I jokingly told her I had bought a bat hat, she said bring it on...what a fun party! The tornado sirens were going off, the wind was a-blowin'..good times though! I miss my sweet mama so much..

Steak and shake is shaking thing up

Had supper at Steak'n Shake at Effingham, now that they have decided to be old school and use grass-fed waygu beef, fries cooked in beef tallow and cane sugar sodas...it was delicious. We had a date afternoon, looking at kitchen tiles and stainless steel sinks and picking up items we won in an on-line auction waaay out in the creek bottoms...home by 6:30...now that's what we old people call a good time.Bill...I don't know what to do with this goofball...

 We had a little rain cloud come by and gave us a rainbow...I didn't enhance these photos at all, it wasn't very bright, but I was still pretty.

 

World Color annual reunion

 Tonight was our annual World Color Press/Salem Gravure reunion. The plant closed in 2000, so it's been quite a while, many have passed on, so we are grateful to still be able to get together and reconnect once a year. Many had already left when we decided to take this picture. What a great time we had! It's always a potluck, so there was lots of good food too

 

 Had lunch with my Red Hat sisters today. We played Family Feud and took silly pictures with our Groucho glasses. It was a good time!

 It's TBT...this photo sure makes me miss my youth..It's TBT...back in the day with no make-up, still had thick hair and no fat, 2003...good times at Carlyle Lake on a very hot summer day with Bill.

 

Ravenswood Family Album

 I finished my vintage Ravenswood family album. Since I made it for myself for my Halloween display thought I would share it with you all. Remember, it is supposed to look like something from the 1800's. I had to age it, beat it up and make it look like it was lost in a leaky attic for a century or two. It was a lot of work, but also great fun. I really needed some of those little corner things that were used to mount pictures and calligraphy pens to write the captions, but I did not have either of those things...so it is what it is.

 TBT...we had such great times with our little motor home. We drove all over the place, from Texas, to Michigan, to Colorado to New Orleans and all places in between! Good times with my sweet husband. you can tell this was a long time ago, my hair is dark..

 

New Potion Bottles and pending project

 

Here are a few potion bottles I've made lately. This time of year I try to make fun ones that can be used for Halloween parties. I make and sell them all year though. My new favorite thing is making the color-changing bottles. The colors keep swirling and it looks magical! Also,I started making a vintage photo album out of a book that I got at Goodwill. I have the cover done. I am putting old copies of vintage photos in it with some captions. At least that's the plan. I am just making it for me, so no pressure. So, that's what I'm doing on this 102° day!
