Welcome.....

To my world of the weird, the strange, the unexplained......... no, I'm just kidding, this is a happy place......OK, maybe I am just a little weird.

Madame Butterfly......you're boring me!

I'm alone in the house tonight....so you know what happens when I'm alone........I SING!

So, tonight's selections will be from
MADAME BUTTERFLY.

*Footnote.....since Madame Butterfly is an Italian Opera written by Puccini, all of the songs have Italian titles.....and since I don't speak Italian you will just have to make up your own titles...........

Sorry I chose such a depressing Opera, (i.e., I'm in love with a soldier, soldier dies, I think I will kill myself)......but I liked this picture... :P

Yippee.....Preston's back in the States!!!

I called Amanda a few days ago because I hadn't heard from Preston in a while. She told me that he was coming home for his R & R and that they were all going to Disney World. I am so happy that he is home instead of in Iraq, of course, he DOES have to go back, but for now and for today, I am happy. I just know they are having a great time.

Happy Birthday, Preston

Today is Preston's Birthday, but he is far away in Iraq, so I am sure it is not a happy one for him. I hope he knows we are thinking about him today, as everyday.

Preston:
Remember when you were about 8 or 9 years old and I made that birthday cake with the soldiers fighting each other all over the top? Who knew you would be where you are today?

So, Happy Birthday, Preston, try to enjoy yourself as best as you can and know that we love you very much.

Today was a terrible day in the world

I try not to be a news person on my little tiny blog, but today was a terrible day for Virginia Tech. in Blacksburg, VA. A strange Korean guy killed 32 young college students and professors for no apparent reason. It has been very heart-breaking to watch and listen to all of the students talk about their friends and their beloved school. I am just noting it here, so that we will all remember and think of those families without their loved ones and say a little prayer for them, as well. There will always be an empty place at the dinner table, holiday and family celebrations will be minus that one special person and the world will never be the same.

GO HOKIES!

Caleb's First Birthday

What's this weird stuff?
Oooooo, something noisy!
Yeah, I got two presents!.....this one is even bigger and noisier.....weeeeeeeee!
Cake!
I like cake!

Amanda just sent me these pictures of Caleb's first birthday yesterday. He is opening the presents we all sent him. He has grown so much and I appreciate these pictures so much. She tells me that Preston told her he may be home for R and R this summer, but may not leave Iraq until Christmas....:-( . So, I guess I might as well settle down and just wait like she is.

Hurry home, Preston, we miss you.

Events in a nut shell..

Well, I am way behind, so let's see.........

We have sold the ice cream shoppe. I have trained the new owners for approximately 10 days and I think they won't need me much longer.

Mom is starting her radiation treatments tomorrow and will have them everyday for 7 weeks (except week ends). She is doing well though.

Preston is still in Iraq and is stuck there due to the increase in soldiers. He is very unhappy and depressed and I don' t blame him. He has been there too long and too many times and is missing his son's first birthday.....and that all just sucks. I am sending him some extra prayers.

Caleb's birthday is tomorrow. I sent him some noisy gifts, but know he will have fun with them and sent the older one's some Easter baskets.

On a happier note: Bill and I are going to Ireland in July. We set up our tour last week and sent off for passports. I AM excited about that. That is one of our dreams and it is coming true. We have been saying for years that we want to go there someday...........and someday is now....well.....soon.

The chickens, the dog and Bill are all fine......and that catches up my blog....

Red Hatters With a Green Twist!

Robin was our hostess for the evening and everything was decorated for St. Patrick's day.
Pat is always stylin', and since she's an Irish girl (that's why her name is Pat), she dressed in shamrocks, buttons and all things green.
Now don't we just all look prim and proper here....when we all know we're not!. Sorry, Velvet, caught you with your eyes closed..:-)
More Red Hat ladies.....Robin and her mom decorated the tables in an Irish theme and they were very festive. We all had a bag of chocolates to take home with us.
The main dish were the wonderful meatballs in a sweet salty sauce made by Robin's mom. We were all wanting the recipe and soon Robin came in with a bag that said "Kroger"....:-).....but the sauce WAS home-made....and they were yummy. Lots of other snacks were served also as well as St. Patrick's Day cookies.
The evening continued with a lively game of Shamrock Bingo....the prizes were great!

That silly Janet, she is always doin' something.....like in this picture. She decided to go for that "Gabby Hayes" (or Bowrey Boys)...look with her hat!

Thanks hostesses, it was a very nice relaxing evening....I could sure use some of those meatballs right now.

Happy Brthday, Fats Domino

Today is Fat's Domino's 85th birthday. It seems he has been around forever. I saw him live in St. Louis in the 1970's at which time he autographed this picture for me after the show when we were all allowed to go back to his dressing room. The performance was at the Plantation Dinner Theatre in St. Louis. The stage was round and in the middle of the room and the tables were on tiers around the theatre. He pounded the piano and rocked the night away with all of his hits from the 1950's and 60's, such as, Blueberry Hill, Ain't that a Shame and Blue Monday. The thing I remember most was that he had on shoes with clear plastic heels on them and there were gold fish inside, no they were not real!...He would just stomp, stomp, stomp those feet with the beat, while he was playing that piano...quite a fun night! It was surreal to be there hearing him sing all of the songs I grew up with and I just want to say ...he's still got it! .....It's good to know the old boy is still around.....a reminder of a time of innocence and change from my youth...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FATS!
